BBC Africa: Johnny Just Come
The BBC’s music station 1Xtra has been broadcasting a special season called ‘Words First’, celebrating the growing art form of #SpokenWord - that’s performance poetry that can be delivered in a variety of styles. As part of this season, Focus on Africa has commissioned three poets from the African diaspora in the UK to write exclusive poetry on the theme of #migration. All three were allowed to interpret it in whatever way they wished. In the first poem of our series, Yomi Sode, a London-based Nigerian born writer explores what it means to be a Nigerian living in the UK. The poem is called Johnny Just Come. And, just a warning, the author uses a word that some may find offensive.
